Sunday Service 2026-10-11: The Promise of Faith | Justified by Faith, Not Works of the Law

This Sunday we continued in Galatians 3, examining Paul’s challenge to the Galatian church: if we received the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ, why would we try to complete the work of salvation through our own efforts? Looking back to Abraham in Genesis 15, we saw that Abraham believed God, and his faith was accounted to him as righteousness. God’s covenant was grounded in His promise, not in Abraham’s ability to earn it through perfect obedience. The same principle applies to us today: we are justified by faith, not by our works or our ability to keep the Mosaic law.

This message also explores the purpose of God’s law and the ongoing work of sanctification. The law reveals our sin and our need for a Savior; it serves as a tutor to lead us to Christ, but it cannot make us righteous. True spiritual growth does not come from simply trying harder or relying on our own strength. It comes through the Holy Spirit working in us as we trust in Jesus. Our identity is no longer defined by our failures, our accomplishments, or our background, but by our relationship with Christ and our place in God’s family through His promise.

This message reminds us that:

  • Faith, not works, is the foundation of our justification. Like Abraham, we are counted righteous through trusting God rather than earning His favor through obedience.
  • Jesus Christ is the object of our faith. The power of faith rests not in how strong our belief feels, but in the One in whom we place our trust.
  • God’s law reveals our need for Christ. The law exposes our sin and points us toward the Savior, but it cannot make us righteous.
  • Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit. God does not leave us as we are; He works in us to make us more like Jesus.
  • Our identity is found in Christ and His promise. Through faith, we are brought into God’s family as heirs of the promise given to Abraham.

Join us for worship, prayer, and a deeper look at the freedom of the gospel—a reminder that we are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that the same Spirit who begins His work in us continues to transform us into the people He has called us to be.
